Carbon tax on aviation sector not deal breaker: EU

Brussels: The European Union has denied charges made by Indian Environment Minister Jayanthi Natrajan that an EU law that charges airlines for carbon emissions is a "deal-breaker" for international climate change talks, EuAsia News reported.

Carbon tax on aviation sector not deal breaker: EU

"For ages the European Union has been asked to reduce emissions faster and more than developing countries. We are happy to do that. It is fine with us, EU spokesman for climate action Isaac Valero-Ladron told reporters in Brussels.

"Here is another initiative to reduce emissions from the entire aviations sector in the EU and only a part of the Indian aviation sector, that means Indian flights to Europe."

"So I don't see why this should be a deal breaker in the international climate negotiations if both share the same objectives which is reducing global emissions. I don't see this as a deal breaker," he added.
